The 2012 CFDA Awards
Fashion’s elite came out to play in large numbers at last night’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards, also known as the CFDAs. The award ceremony kicked off its 50th anniversary with a fashion show including a cache of pieces from several of its 400 members. The event, that is considered to be the Oscars of fashion, was hosted by SNL funny man Seth Myers, who’s opening speech included an awkward John Galliano joke and a hilarious roast at the expense of Marc Jacobs.
The night’s winners included iconic design veterans in addition to fresh-faced, emerging talent. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise of the night, came when Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen accepted the Womenswear Designer of the Year award for their ready-to-wear label, The Row. Menswear Designer of the Year went to Billy Reid, while Accessories Designer of the Year went to Reed Krakoff. The Swarovski Awards for Emerging Talent went to Joseph Altuzarra for Womenswear, Phillip Lim for Menswear and Tabitha Simmons for Accessories Design. The Lifetime Achievement award went to a gratuitous Tommy Hilfiger, while the International Award went to a visibly absent Rei Kawakubo for Comme Des Garçon.
If it were up to us, there would be some serious awards given to the best dressed. And as we all know, with best dressed, also comes worst dressed. So here it is, Judy Inc’s first annual CFDA Hits and Misses Awards. And the awards go to…
