I’ve been kicking the widely referred to Cat a long time…In other words, Lots and Lots of hair (and tips of ears, and fingers, and…) has fallen to the ground over the course of my adult life.
It seems only natural, then, that I begin a beginning of a story that began long, long ago (in fact, if what they say is true, that a “generation” is equivalent to 20 years, well, then a “generation” has gone and new one begun…), some 26 years ago in fact.
The first shoot that I was sent out on was here in Toronto. And it was on this first shoot (I believe I was also late ish, even back then. It has little to do with a “careless” attitude and everything to do with everything else, this “lateness”…) that I met David. That is, I met The Soon-To-Be-THE David Goveia on this very first shoot. I am not able to remember the other slightly significant details ie., model, photog, “look”…Looking back, thinking back, it does not much matter what else needs remembering because it was, and has been Mr Goveia that has stuck around. Brushes,Powders, Stains, Glosses in Hand and In My Head.
Many years have passed and David and I still get along and, well, get along well enough. Haha. That’s sort or funnycharming…For every look we craft together, I am compelled to cite a year/era/period and an icon relevant to imagined year/era/icon. I suppose I am somewhat neurotic that way. Shoot me. I have depended on his feedback, his eye(s), his approach, his assessment of what is “current.now.beautiful.art”, and mostly his ability to turn a potential trauma around. These days, I am lucky, really lucky to work him in yet another capacity: Mentor and Lead Idea Guy to Sara (who is a quick and ready Study!) and as in house, at navigateSalon, Make Up On Call Guy. Superior to None.
A Tribute to David, you might say:
