Judy Inc.’s, Christine Roberts, has been known to create room-sets that transform spaces by executing her client’s viewpoint with creative and inspirational results. Christine has done it again, this time with an unlikely backdrop: the bathroom.

Why a bathroom? To highlight the launch of a new line of bathroom tissue covers. It’s an exciting new collaboration between bathroom tissue brand Cottonelle and designer Jonathan Adler. Adler produced three “groovy” new toilet paper roll covers as part of Cottonelle’s “Respect the Roll” campaign.

On January 18th, 2012 the Jamie Kennedy restaurant at the Gardiner Ceramics Museum showcased three unique bathroom vignettes that Christine created to accompany Adler’s original designs.  Antique pieces, bold accessories, muted floor coverings, and flowers finished each space and gave it a funky yet functional look. Christine’s ability to research, recover and restore allowed her to use a variety of sources, from antique dealers to online ‘shops’, to give each space its own character. Christine also created a separate seating area for media guests to watch Adler explain his inspiration, via live telecast; replete with tufted white patent sofas, colourful side tables and bright pillow accents.

Christine says that it was “one of the most fun and creative jobs I have ever done and I enjoyed it immensely”. Her practical yet innovative approach to business, along with her creative flare, has provided Cottonelle with an extremely successful and unique platform to showcase their new cover designs.

Rejuvenate Yourself!

This past month we tried to offer you the best tips to help you out with the holiday season. As we all know, it’s been a crazy time of year and in between wrapping paper, festive decorations, holiday feasts and shopping malls, there was rarely any time left for you to think about yourself.

Now that the holiday’s are over (much to our dismay), and the New Year has begun, it’s time to give one more much needed gift – to yourself! In fact, your friends at Judy Inc. insist you do! We’re going to give you some tips inspired by makeup artist, Chantal Hubens, that will rejuvenate, refresh and pamper your skin—post holiday mayhem.

Chantal’s Maeve Magazine Editorial exemplifies the perfect look for the New Year.  In her own words, Chantal offers us some insider tips for achieving the fresh look:

To achieve the flawless semi matte look on [the model’s] skin I used Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in Natural Beige set with Armani Micro-fil Loose Powder in Porcelaine Beige. As an all over eye base I used MAC “Kitschmas” pigment to create a soft bright and glowing look. I also dragged this out towards the temple for a slighty punk look.I used MAC “Hocus pocus” very lightly to define the crease of the eye.Next came the MAC Gold Glitter which I mixed into facial moisturizer and applied thickly to the eyelid to create a shimmery, reflective look.I then lined the underneath of the eye with Annabelle Black Eyeliner, rather thickly for a bold look and then finished the eye with L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara in Carbon Black on the top and bottom lashes. For a soft glow on the cheek I used Bourjous “Rose Amber” blush just on the ball of the cheek and blended well. To keep the focus on the eyes I went for a pale lip colour by MAC called “Shy Girl. This look is fresh and soft enough for the daytime, but can also be great for going out at night because of the shimmery and punk components. It truly is a look that is as versatile as the 2012 woman.”

Getting into the Spirit of Giving… One Toy at a Time

Judy Inc, once again, got into the spirit of giving this holiday season through the annual Judy Inc.Toy Drive.

The toys, brought in by clients and artists to the agency party, were donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Toronto. They came in all shapes and sizes- teddy bears, dolls, musical instruments, board games, and puzzles were just some of the items collected in the Judy office.

The toy drive benefits the less fortunate boys and girls of Toronto this holiday season.

Any makeup & hair artist will say that it can definitely be tricky at times to work on young children. That’s why Judy artist Chantal Hubens always makes sure the child is relaxed, comfortable and happy, that way their emotions translate through to the photos.

This can be seen on the latest cover of Canadian Family magazine.

Chantal did a wonderful job ensuring a natural look that allowed the innocence and natural beauty to shine.  She says that the child’s happiness is the most important part of a successful shoot. And although it might be difficult at times, it’s all worthwhile when you see the finished product.

Trend Report December 11-17

http://www.judyinc.com/michelleburca/

We know it’s been a while since we had a weekly trend report but we figured what better time to post one that’s full of fashionable tips and pointers for the holiday season!

That’s right! This week’s trend focuses on getting ready for the Holidays – namely GIFTS!

It’s officially December and that means the holidays are just around the corner. And of course, with the season comes bad weather, traffic, and overcrowded shopping malls. To give you a head start we’ve decided to make ‘holiday gift shopping’ this week’s trend.

This isn’t about just heading out and shopping, it’s about finding the right gift for everyone on your list.  We’ve enlisted the help of stylist Michelle Burca and her latest feature for Zoomer magazine’s “Timeless Christmas Present Wish List” to help you with what’s new, what’s hot, and what’s sure to finish off your shopping list before the first snow fall.

Michelle demonstrates that it’s not necessarily how trendy or expensive your gift choices are, it’s really the thought behind them. By using a little creativity, you can stretch your budget a long way but your friends will think you’ve spoiled them.

Thanks to Michelle, the trend for this week is to get out and go shopping now before the line ups are out the door, and use a little creative flare this holiday season to give a special touch to ordinary items.

Trend Report November 20-26

With the holiday season just around the corner, we’re all guilty over overindulging – Christmas cake, turkey trimming and a little too much eggnog – all the things that taste oh so good, but are oh so bad for our waistlines!

This report is not just a trend, but rather a guide that we can all apply to our lifestyle year round.  And there’s no better time than just before all the holiday parties, where you’ll be tempted into a second helping of stuffing!

Follow these tips from style expert David Clemmer, and the guilt of your overindulgence won’t ruin your holiday spirit!

Tip #1- Choose the right bra and underwear

Making yourself feel better is all about how you dress. This doesn’t just include the brands you’re wearing or the outfit you’ve put together, knowing your right size is extremely important in turning your look from great to fabulous. David points out that it’s especially important to know your right bra and underwear size. What you wear underneath is just as important (if not more important) than what you wear for the world to see.

David says, “It doesn’t matter how much you spend on a sweater or what fabulous fabric it’s made of, if you’re not wearing the proper bra in the proper size, your boobs can sag and make your upper body look boxy and shapeless.”

Tip #2- Don’t dwell on the numbered tag in your jeans

You’re a size 8, or a size 18- so what? Don’t dwell so much on the number on the rack. The worst thing you can do is try to squeeze yourself into a size that’s too small. David says that fabric choice is just as important also. While it’s important to show off your curves, clingy fabrics can actually “stick” to the body areas that may make you feel self conscious.

You want to make sure you buy the right size clothing, regardless of what your “number” is. Even buying clothes that are slightly too large will make you appear as though you’ve gained weight.

Lead a healthy lifestyle, but don’t miss out on the fun

With the holiday season upon us, make sure to pay particular attention to living a healthy lifestyle, but don’t miss out on the good things in life just because you’re obsessed with the numbers on the scale (or your jeans). You can feel good and look great in your party outfits if you follow these tips. As long as you lead a healthy lifestyle, it’s okay to indulge and take part in the holiday festivities.

Ashley Denton – Glow Magazine

Food styling:  Ashley Denton, Judy Inc
Photography:  John Cullen

Ashley’s work in Glow magazine focused on meat alternatives for those certain dishes that you just can’t stop your mouth from watering over.

The classic burger is one of those dishes that can always look so good. Ashley wanted to take the juicy aspects of meat and present it in a vegetarian alternative so that you wouldn’t even know the difference. The goal was to make sure these meat classics (sans meat) didn’t look like a typical vegetarian dish. Rather, Ashley opted for a more “meaty” look that would do these classic food dishes justice.

What makes the food stylist:

Ashley’s favourite part of food styling is the ability to be able to work with food without having to work in a restaurant or a kitchen. He loves the fact that there’s so much team work that goes into making a beautiful picture. (There’s more to food than what meets the eye!)

What makes a good food stylist, like Ashley, is getting up close to the details and individual ingredients of a recipe, so that a simple photograph can make your mouth water.

Stylexchange & Little Burgundy November 2, 2011- Taylor Savage

http://www.judyinc.com/taylorsavage/

While no one wants to be a “fake”, or even worse in the fashion world- admit that they’re wearing fake-the November 2nd event hosted by Stylexchange and Little Burgundy duo store on Queen Street in Toronto was a night where our artist, Taylor Savage, was showing all that attended just how great “fake” could really be!

The event focused on what is original and what is real. Furthermore, it had everyone asking the same question, “Can we really tell the difference after all?” Fake moustaches, fake eyelashes, fake lips, fake nails were all around and for a moment, in the fashion world, being fake never looked so good thanks to Taylor and the many fake product touch-ups she did all night long.

Some photos from the event are seen below:

Over the years we have seen her reporting from numerous locations and reporting on numerous fashion stories- all of which have been integral, in some way or another, to the fashion world. Randy as stylist, and Barry Harris as photographer,  focused on the vision we have all had of Jeanne over the years and used the key pieces from the EDIT fall/winter 2011 collection to accomplish this look.

By accenting with personal jewellery and a great shoe, Randy was able to keep the look clean, simple and tasteful, and the fashion reporter we have all come to know over the years, was able to shine through from behind the scenes, as she always has- all thanks to Randy’s focus on personal styling.

The Stories Behind P&G’s Makeup Artist of the Year- Judy’s very own, Sabrina Rinaldi

P&G Beauty and Grooming Awards – Makeup Artist of the Year

Judy Inc.’s very own, Sabrina Rinaldi www.judyinc.com/sabrinarinaldi

The other night was certainly a whirlwind of lifetime achievements, accomplishments and beauty movers and makers at the 2011 P&G Beauty and Grooming Awards. The event was held November 1st and hosted by Canadian actress, Kim Cattrall. Now in its third year, the awards applaud excellence in the beauty, fashion and grooming industry and promote diverse creativity amongst the industry professionals.

Our very own, Sabrina Rinaldi, took home the title “Makeup Artist of the Year” with the following three entries: Forever Black, Pure Beauty, and the Bamboo Organic Beauty Magazine shoot. The Judy Inc team is very proud of Sabrina and our other 3 nominated artists – GianLuca Orienti (makeup), Eric Raymond (hair) and Jackie Gideon (hair)

You’ve now heard all about the award, but we’re going to show you exactly what was behind each of the three entries and how Sabrina mastered each one.

Forever Black

Photographer Credit: Maxime Bocken. Model: Katrina, Next Models.

In Sabrina’s words:

“The concept of the shoot was to showcase the trend in black makeup we saw that season. We felt that by focusing on one feature in each shot, while keeping the rest of the face glowing and dewy, it would be a great way to contrast the strong and the soft elements of makeup.”

Pure Beauty

Photography credit: Maja Hajduk. Model: Amanda Tataryn, Sutherland Models.

In Sabrina’s words:

“The concept behind the Pure Beauty was to interpret the trends we have seen on the 2010 spring runways. We saw lots of sculptural hair and interesting use of colour on the face. We combined the two for an overall editorial feel that showcased diverse and technical make up techniques.”

Bamboo Organic Beauty Magazine

Photography credit: Mario Miotti Models: Senait, Genevieve, Leanne, Elmer Olsen Models.

In Sabrina’s words:

“The objective of this shoot was to use only one colour on the face to compose an entire look. To create an element of dimension with the single colour palette, I chose to play with the texture of makeup by off-setting dewy skin with a glittery lip, or shimmering lips with a matte eye. This was a unique and challenging concept that I greatly enjoyed working on.”

There you have it, the stories behind the makeup artist.

Trend Report October 30- November 5, 2011

Natural Beauty

This week’s trend is all about using makeup to support and enhance your natural beauty. Our makeup artist, GianLuca Orienti, has recently crafted looks that use makeup in the most optimal way to allow the natural beauty to shine through.

To take some of GianLuca’s advice, work on highlighting your favourite features (demonstrated below):

GianLuca chose one feature in the Marlowe shoot to focus on. For this particular picture, the nose had a very strong presence, so he focused on the nose to frame the whole face. This made the image very sophisticated and elegant. The Marlowe shoot was all about timeless classics and GianLuca highlighted this with the minimal classic feel.

If your eyes are your favourite feature, focus your makeup on them to get a great effect. This model’s piercing eyes are a central focal point thanks to GianLuca’s attention to detail. He focused on the wideness of the models eyes which he felt was a striking feature in the images. Much like the natural environment surrounding the model, the makeup was crafted in such a way as to feature a soft, natural simplistic feel.

Sabrina Rinaldi – Elle Canada

Sabrina’s latest editorial and cover for Elle Canada Magazine!

Makeup and hair:  Sabrina Rinaldi, Judy Inc
Photography:  Leda and St. Jacque (cover and editorial)

What we love about Sabrina’s hair and make up styling for this shoot is the way she was able convey the masculine, androgynous concept in a soft and feminine way. The sleekness of the hair and the use of make up to highlight and contour the face, work well with the model’s features, strong lighting and structured fabrics.

The success of this shoot isn’t due to one aspect but all the elements of photography, lighting, styling, model, hair and makeup coming together in a balanced yet powerful way.

Blair Petty – Hacid Magazine

Makeup and hair:  Blair Petty, Judy Inc
Photography:  Richard Dubois

Blair Petty- Hacid Magazine

Blair’s hair and makeup in the Hacid magazine reflected the colourless and minimal story that was the theme behind the shoot. The use of different make-up textures, rather than colour, allowed for the avant-garde clothing pieces to take effect, but not in an over-bearing way. The manipulation of texture in Blair’s work was the key feature.

The hair was ironed straight-up so as to represent a “halo” like feature when movement was added. This effect can be seen in many of the photos featured here. Blair’s make-up and hair styling highlighted the features and details that are so very important to the overall look.

Yvadney Davis – Ink Magazine

Wardrobe:  Yvadney Davis, Judy Inc
Photography:  Matthew Burditt

Yvadney’s latest styling for Ink magazine focused on continuation and flowing with change. It is truly perpetual by featuring flowing pieces that signal continuity, yet also a versatility to deal with change and whatever may come- A styling that celebrated both form and fluidity.

The colour choices are symbolic of continuity as they blend into one another. From the shoulders down to the shoes, there is a lasting visual duration of colours and textures. As the seasons change, we often do too, but it’s important to remember the perpetual beauty that lasts the test of time, and this is what Yvadney’s latest work represents.

Trend Report: October 21st- October 29th

PLAYFUL SWEATERS

With November just around the corner, we can see the weather beginning to show its true colours, but just because the temperature is cooler doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice fashion for warmth (or vice versa). Both warmth and fashion can co-exist happily and our Judy artists have put that to the test with their latest work.

This week’s trend is sweaters that will show your playful side, keep you cozy and fabulously fashionable all at the same time.

If you’re worried that an over-sized sweater will end up wearing you (rather than you wearing it), fear no more! Here’s a few of our Judy artists that show you just how to rock that playful sweater:

Amy’s Fiasco Magazine Wardrobe:

Amy’s recent wardrobe style for Fiasco magazine is a great example of the many different ways you can wear the oversized sweater. (We especially love the body-length sweater dress!) If you’re feeling extra playful, make sure you invest in a cute sweater dress that you can pair with some great boots.

Randy’s Yellow Campaign Wardrobe:

The great thing about Randy’s work here is that he demonstrates just how to pair your playful sweater with… Just about everything! From boots to skirts and skinny jeans, his work will give you the perfect balance for your next playful sweater outfit.

To all of our amazing followers

We’re working on some new ideas here in the Judy office and are hoping to implement them in some awesome new ways that will help you (our follower) become one of the newest trendsetters.

Each week Judy Inc. will be posting a must-follow-trend. These trends will range from fashion to beauty to interiors and everything in between. Judy Inc. is hoping that you will use our trend blogs as your first resource for everything you need to know when updating your look- whether it is your wardrobe or the closet that houses your wardrobe.

Judy Inc. is very excited to give this to all of our followers and we can assure you that our artists offer a wealth of knowledge in their work relating to what’s hot and trendy now.

Make sure to check back regularly! This is a blog you do not want to miss out on. We guarantee that our trends, and the accompanying photos of our artists work, will make you one of the newest trend-setters. Our artists are some of the best in the industry, so if there are any trends that you’d like to know more about, or even if you’d just like to know how to do the perfect smoky eye, please leave a comment and let us know.
