Great Photoshoot Locations in Vancouver
I’ve been living and working in Vancouver long enough to know it’s streets and secrets like the back of my hand. I know the perfect spots to be used in locations for everything from high fashion editorials to simple black & white portraits to films and music videos. Vancouver is an extremely varied city with a ton of diversity and possibility in it’s locations – from back roads and beaches to back alleys, heritage buildings and rooftops, to construction sites, and on and on. Did you come to beautiful British Columbia to experience the vast mountain ranges and lush forests? Lets take you up the local mountains; they are good year round: sunny woods in the spring or snowy hills in the winter.
Here’s a few of my favorite outdoor downtown urban spots taken from a ‘lil online directory I curate of Vancouver photo shoot locations and photographers:
1. The Gaolers Mews is a great spot in the heart of Gastown. It’s got the classic cobblestone and brick with retro signage; there is also a fire escape staircase that adds more angles for the shots. What could make this ideal location just a tad better? How about a large, bright red door set in a brick doorway? Perfection.
2. Another one of my favorites is the Water Street Alley. This Alley runs parallel the back of the buildings on Water Street and the rail yard. Beside the rails is the ocean, giving the alley some open air and more light than the stereotypical dark and damp city alley. The Water Street Alley has a bit of everything; graffiti, brick, grates, chain link fences, doorways, rust, and of course, the railway cars.
3. My third location is the graffiti on Beatty Street. Is there any better free backdrop than a freshly graffitied wall? Because it is always changing, you can go back to the same location over and over. The Beatty Street location is right off of the skytrain making it a super easy spot to get to and from.
